I don’t think Marrakech would be as popular as it is today without the power of Instagram, so I thought it’d be appropriate to put out an Instagrammer’s guide to Marrakech. These are my picks for all the best spots to stay, eat and go, which are of course very photogenic. Just as a disclaimer, the places mentioned look as good in person as it does on Instagram! I know that there is nothing worse than seeing something so beautiful online to be so disappointed by it when you finally make your way there in real life.
Make sure to comment below any other places you would recommend if you’ve been to Morocco!
Where to Stay
Es Saadi Palace
A resort located in the new city of Marrakech, Essaadi Palace is an absolutely stunning place to stay. We stayed at the Palace (Essaadi is split into the Hotel and the Palace), and the suite was fit for a king, queen and their entire freaking family since it was huge! As well as a gorgeous four poster bed and a bathtub bigger than my room at home. Wander the grounds and find the blue house (which you can stay in!). It makes for the perfect Insta shot.
Movenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi
A surprisingly standout place that I stayed was the Movenpick hotel. From their beautiful lobby to the many different restaurants scattered throughout the hotel, I was constantly blown away.
La Mamounia & Riad Yasmine
Of course, no Instagram guide to Marrakech is complete without mention to these Instagram famous hotels. However, they were fully booked during my stay, so I couldn’t experience these gorgeous places (so can’t say for 100% they’re as amazing in real life, but I have a good feeling they are.
Where to Eat
Cafe Des Spices
Five minutes from the famous Jema El Fena square is this gorgeous rooftop cafe that overlooks the medina (traditional shops). Get yourself a traditional turkish tea or the traditional avocado smoothie (so good!) and watch the hustle and bustle below. It's the perfect break from the heat and overwhelming feeling that normally happens when you're wandering the medina for too long.
Another rooftop restaurant (you just can't get enough when you're in Marrakech). This cafe does boho chic right with gorgeous interior design. It also has one of the best views of famous Marrakech landmarks as well as the sunset. The food I have to admit was less memorable as I can't for the life of me remember what I had.
Now Nomad was an instagrammable restaurant where the food is even better than its instagrammableness (pretty sure that's not a word but lets go with it). Nomad is a bit more upscale than the previous places so it's price tag mirrors this. But for a memorable experience, its definitely worth it in my opinion!
Where to Go
Le Jardin Secret
Hidden in the middle of the medina is this beautiful garden that was only opened to the public a few years ago. It's a great place to wander and have a relaxing morning, or even if you just want to escape the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. You can grab a coffee at the rooftop cafe and climb the towers to get an epic view over the city. Don't forget ID if you're a student because you can grab a discount!
On a similar wave length are the gardens that was rediscovered and restored by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. Although more touristy, the gardens are really beautiful and its unique thing to do when visiting Marrakech.
This Palace was built in the 19th century and is a brilliant example of Moroccos architecture at its finest. There are many rooms you can wander through and marvel at how grand it all is. Definitely go early if you want to get the perfect shot though as the crowds get bigger and bigger during the day.
And finally, my last suggestion as to where to go for the perfect Instagram is basically just anywhere in the medina in Marrakech. It can be a shock to the system as the colours, noises and smells are just so intense here but every corner is so beautiful. Don't forget to grab a picture at one of the many gorgeous doors scattered around!
