How To Travel More In 2017

How can you travel more? WEEKEND BREAKS & STAYCATIONS

My ultimate goal for this year is to travel and experience more. But, come January I had a seriously hard time figuring out how to do so. I love to think of us millennials as the wanderlust generation where a lot of us have a serious love for travel that far exceeds previous generations. We tend to prioritise exploring different places above everything else, but if you’re anything like me, there just never seems to be enough time or money to do so! Scrolling through my never ending Instagram feed of beautiful people in even more beautiful places, I decided this year that I would make the most of it and visit as many new places as I could.

With university, deadlines and social obligations, I find myself with less time to travel even though its all I want to do, and I feel like a lot of us are in the same position. So, when I found that two week long vacations just in the summer weren’t enough anymore, I started going on more city breaks, or discovering areas closer to home. And, oh my god did that change my life.

“To move, to breathe, to fly, to float,

To gain all while you give,

To roam the roads of lands remote,

To travel is to live.”

― Hans Christian Andersen

Theres a significant difference in the levels of happiness we experience when we put more emphasis on experiences over material goods (cliche as that is). Weekend breaks or even staycations make travelling so much easier, and you maintain that first day excitement of landing in a new place. I don’t know about you, but when I reach day seven of a holiday, I sometimes get less excited and just more stressed. Quick trips allow me to experience more parts of the world, and allow it to remain even more memorable for some reason. Also, if I really fall in love with a place and want to see more, I know I can always come back. The world is so big, bigger than I think any of us can imagine, so by taking more weekends away to different places, I hope I can one day see it all!
So far this year, I’ve already visited 3 countries, 5 cities and 2 staycations.

I completely agree! We are the wanderlust generation! I think exploring your own country while saving up for an overseas holiday is a great idea!

I completely agree with you! Waiting for the summer holidays always feels so long! I’m planning on just doing weekend breaks next year and getting in loads of destinations like Prague, Budapest, Venice & Copenhagen!

Loved this post – not least because I’m completely incapable of taking a holiday that lasts longer than seven days (okay, eight if I’m traveling to another continent). Hope you’ve got some incredible adventures lined up for the rest of the year!

Love this post and I agree with all of it. It’s so important to focus more on the experiences and also give our minds a chance to explore and open up aside from our daily tasks. Cheers to more trips and travel this year! xx
